Elegantly designed, lovingly crafted functional and sculptural ceramics to bring you joy.Spending time in Catherine Lane’s inspiring garden studio will lift your spirits and make you smile. A well established artist and long time educator, Catherine has lived and worked on the north coast of NSW for twenty five years and her space is a true reflection of the vibrant, creative and relaxed north coast lifestyle. Her extensive career includes study, training in Japan (in the mingei tradition) and more recently, undertaking the role of acting Director of the GAYA Ceramic Art Centre in Ubud, Bali. Catherine’s work is a refreshing and highly personalised hybrid mix of styles, techniques and influences. Not satisfied with making ordinary objects for the everyday, Catherine’s intuitive and creative approach invites an interesting mix of whimsy, contemplation and humour that brings the outside in, using colour and narrative in her on-going exploration of the human:animal interface. The most discerning lover of ceramics will be surprised and delighted by the unusual combination of finely thrown objects and gutsy hand made pieces across various scales. With techniques as varied as brush decoration, sgraffito, carving and wax resist, the outcomes provide visual evidence of the artist’s holistic, integrated approach to her practice espousing a deep, underpinning love for the environment and the animals we share this planet with. It is a philosophy that spans her life and work.
